Yesterday I registered for a first course in Biblical Hebrew through the Reformed Theological Seminary, in their Global Campus (online)! My interest in taking a course in Hebrew is driven by the last three years of study in the Old Testament.
The first step in the course is, of course, to learn the 22 (23) Hebrew consonants. The instructor for the course summarizes the first chapter of the textbook here.
I have worked hard on the first exercise, writing out all 23 letters by hand... attempting to memorize the words and their script!
As I work later on Hebrew vocabulary, I am interested in reading the original text of the Old Testament. A native Hebrew speaker Ilan has Youtube videos on the first verses of Genesis. They are here: Here are youtube videos (by "Ilan") that work through 1, 2a, 2b, 3, 4, 5. (Each video is 15-20 minutes.) Ilan continues with longer (30-40 minutes) videos that cover verses 6-8, 9-10. I look forward to the day when I can read the original without aid!
