Themes in Proverbs, Part 1 (DRAFT)

Around chapter 15 I became worn out by the numerous short pithy bicolons, two line proverbs. It is not clear to me why these proverbs are listed as they are -- at times they seem to be quite random and some repeat the main idea of previous proverbs; a few appear a second time, word for word. I had already read over 150 of them in chapters 10 through 14 and they were becoming repetitive. I decided to embrace this repetitiveness by collecting them according to their major themes. Guided by Kidner's commentary, I organized the proverbs into subject studies.

God and man

28:9, 15:8, 21:27, 2:5, 9:10, 22:19,

"[The book's] function in Scripture is to put godliness into working clothes; to name business and society as spheres in which we are to acquit ourselves with credit to our Lord, and in which we are to look for his training"

Proverbs 15:3
The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

Proverbs 15:29,
The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
Proverbs 16:2,3,
All a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD.
Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD.
Proverbs 17:3
